Tell All Your Friends: John and Shaun are back in Taking Back Sunday
Rumours have been spreading like wildfire. Could it be? Has the ‘Tell All Your Friends’ era Taking Back Sunday been reborn? Well, it looks very bloody likely.
Just yesterday, Matt Rubano and Matthew Fazzi both announced that they were leaving TBS, and the identities of their replacements seem quite obvious upon visiting the official TBS site. This picture shows former members John Nolan and Shaun Cooper with the three remaining members of the line-up. To add further credibility to already strong evidence, John Nolan has been banging on about it all in cryptic Facebook posts (for example: “Hey everyone, I have a big announcement”; “I know, big news, right?”).
I don’t know about you, but this is all music to my recently sad ears. After the disbanding of Straylight Run, I was absolutely gutted. But even the possibility of a TBS album that could rival ‘Tell All Your Friends’ has really lifted my spirits. If I’m being honest, I don’t think TBS has made a good album since their full-length debut, and I chalked that up to John’s absence. Hopefully he will carry over his prolific writing to TBS and we’ll get a grown-up version of a band I thought I’d lost long ago.

The rumour is surfacing due to the fact that Rubano and Fazzi have left the band, thereby vacating the positions that were held by former members Shaun Cooper and John Nolan. Couple that with the picture that appears when visiting takingbacksunday.com (where, despite blacked-out eyes, it’s clear that John Nolan and Shaun Cooper are present), then it’s pretty safe to say that this is happening. Both Shaun and John have been suggestive of this reunion on their respective social networking sites, and, failing some kind of premature April Fools’, TBS will be back to their ‘Tell All Your Friends’ line-up. If you’ve never heard the band with Shaun and John, I suggest you check out that first album. It’s clear to me that the incarnation of TBS that played on that album had the best chemistry; particularly the vocal trade-offs between John and Adam.
It’s a done deal…I’m interested to see if the tension between Adam and John is still there. That was part of what made the Tell All Your Friends era so great.
i donno i honeslty hope this is a big april fools.. i get that rave about the old tbs .. but as a musician new again has the most effect on me .. yeah it lacking dual vocal but that does not make the band anylower just a new feel.. it would be pretty sweet to see what they would create now but im sure nolan is about his project now .. tbs is in my opinion at there peek as musicians .. fazz brought in this edgy sounds where as fred from “the colour gay” gave them to much of a popy overrated sound. i dont care about anyone elses opinion fazz has created alot of the best tbs songs and adam, writing his own lyrics in new again, made him stronger of a poet and better of a musician
hope its a joke or i hope this rumors true .. just as long as there not donzo or as long as fred doesnt re join .. herd he was bitter about leaving recently ..
Fazzi will be sorely missed, but with the disbanding of Straylight and the maturitng that all the current TBS members have gone through, maybe we’ll finally see a settled line-up and some consistency from a band that’s – in my opinion – yet to hit its peak.
