Even for Courtney Love, this is a new low
Remember when David Hasselhoff got absolutely blitzed a few years back and his daughter videotaped him as he lay on the floor of the bathroom completely out of his gourd, shirtless, trying to eat a sloppy hamburger all while proclaiming “This is a mess” and telling his daughter “fuck you.”
Yeah, that was pretty low.
But if anyone could top (drop?) that, it’s Courtney Love.
I’m just going to step aside and let Rolling Stone explain what went down during a recent Hole concert in Washington D.C.:
- “Do you really like rock music?” Love asked one young woman earnestly during the show. “Because you’re African American. That would be like me being into Lil Wayne.”
- “Hole performed roughly 30 songs…but the songs were mainly just fragments and only a handful were actually completed.”
- “She also stumbled through several other songs, admitting that she had forgotten how to play them — yet still played them regardless.”
- “Later, one of her handlers announced that in order to coax Love back for an encore, the crowd would have to cheer loudly because, the Post reports, “there was someone who was waiting to have sex with Love and it would take lots of applause to get her to delay that appointment.”"
And from the Washington Post:
- “Three-quarters-filled at the start, the club was no more than a quarter packed by the excruciating end.”
- “She also introduced an assistant, Lisa, who was onstage for the entire show filming Love on an iPhone. Not on the side of the stage. Not filming a few songs. The entire show, onstage, often directly in front of Love.”
- “She played a new song, “Pretty Your Whole Life.” It was bad. Half an hour later, she played it again. It was worse.”

I can’t even describe to you how I feel about what I just read and watched. That was the worst excuse of a musical performance I think I will ever witness.
except for the racist remark sounds pretty good actually. i’ve seen shows that were a lot worse. i’d rather go see a show where everyone fucks up and can’t play than go see a show where everyone is all playing good. then again i’m coming from a punk standpoint where a good show is getting through the first song without killing anyone. everything else is stupid rockstar bullshit but go to some (real) punk shows and you’ll see.
But the problem is, one guy on the audience reaction tape stated that the tickets were $45. Punk shows cost, usually, no more than $10. There’s a key difference between paying pocket change for a ticket, and paying real live money for one. The days where it’s acceptable to fuck everything up have passed.
If I pay any amount of money to watch something I would hope to get what I paid for. If I pay for a concert I would like to know that by the end of the night the only thing I’m talking about is the fact that the music was great. Not “yo did you see her take her top off” or “Man that fight was amazing,” you wouldn’t buy a microwave that just blows up? It might be great for the news later, but, at the end of the day all you get is a broken microwave and less money in the bank. Courtney Love is that microwave. Definitely not someone I’d pay to watch.

thanks elliott u said it man. hole’s music is bad at the best of times. u should know that before going to the concert. so when u pay $45 to see courtney love u should expect to see her making her statement – that the world is fucked up so be fucked up. its a pity so many people expect her to be a musician.
