Overheard at the Grammys last night
Last night the 52nd installment of the Grammy Awards took place. While we unfortunately weren’t in attendance, we couldn’t let that stop us from getting in on the gossip. Here are a couple choice comments overheard last night.
Am I the only one who still thinks Sheryl Crow looks like a big stoner?
I’d have to agree with this one. There is something about the woman that just screams “let’s go get baked after this show”. Then again, her amazing physique at 47 completely contradicts this. That and I feel like when Lance was still around he would have kicked her ass for toking up–you can’t win 7 Tour de France’s while stoned to the bejeezus-belt.
You guys Bon Jovi fans?
Yes! 20 years ago. Why is Bon Jovi at the Grammys singing old overplayed songs? Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy Bon Jovi, but I guess I missed the memo entitled “Ideas to spice up this year’s Grammy Awards”.
Why’d they pair the white dude with Mos Def?
Mos Def goes well with everything. Whether he’s wrapping about Mathematics, or blowing shit up in the Italian Job, the man gets it done–even if they want to put him on stage at the Grammys with some old white dude.
Why is Robin Williams at the Grammys?
Why do people not watch the Grammys?
Another year, another Grammy Awards, another chance for Beyonce to establish her dominance in the entertainment business. Look for Suds on Bleeker on location (or at the very least live blogging) next year!
I’ve often said that Green Day was the biggest sell-out band of recent years. Unfortunately my argument fell short with some, so I typically let it slide and went on with my Green Day-free life. Finally though, I’ve gotten enough ammunition to prove without the shadow of a doubt that Green Day is no longer the the band of yore. If you go back in time, the progression from punk to pop may have even started with Dookie. Sure, they were still power chord playing, robo-trippin’ kids, but it certainly opened the door for them to jump on the pop bandwagon. At least Dookie contained no signs of mainstream to it when it first came out in the early nineties. The same couldn’t be said for Insomniac and then Nimrod, which really kicked off the descent (or ascent depending on who you talk to). continue reading
Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan Dies at 28
James Owen Sullivan, or you may know him as Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, was found dead in his Southern California home yesterday, December 28th of 2009. The drummer, and back-up singer, for Avenged Sevenfold appeared to have died of natural causes according to a police statement.
Sullivan was just 28 years old. His band won the MTV Music Video Award for Best New Artist in 2006. Avenged Sevenfold released a statement on the group’s website.
“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan.”
“Jimmy was not only one of the world’s best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy’s family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time. Jimmy you are forever in our hearts. We love you.”
Timberlake Top Charity Earner
Our boy, Justin Timberlake, has become the top charity earner with his work with the Shriners Hospital for Children. He beats out past top philanthropists Madonna and U2’s Bono.
JT’s continued work with the Shriners Hospital has netted an annual impact of more than $9 million. It’s a figure that dwarfs Madonna’s $5.5 million for Raising Malawai. continue reading
