Free Stuff You Will Love: Merkaba
If you like good music that doesn’t cost you one red cent, then stop what you are doing and head over to Merkaba’s website to download their The People’s EP – gratis. Hell, they even offer the EP in a high quality version if you aren’t content with mere MP3s.
Merkaba hails from Oklahoma and they create the kind of expansive, psychedelic, groove-heavy, crushing metal that Tool has perfected. In fact, Merkaba sounds a lot like Tool – mixing stomping riffs with peaceful ambient interludes, and the singer even captures of bit of Maynard’s ethereal voice.
But Merkaba isn’t just a cheap Tool derivative (well, maybe just a little. I mean their band name is a Tool song). But these are truly good songs. And the six songs on the EP clock in at over 38 minutes, which is longer than a lot of band’s LPs. Suffice to say, if you like proggy heavy metal, it will be well worth the time and zero dollars it requires to go download the music.
